FORT DUNREE SUNSET WALK
On this scenic walking tour, we will travel through time to explore the story of Lough Swilly and Fort Dunree.
Join us on a fascinating journey from the end of the last Ice Age to the arrival of the first inhabitants, to Dunree becoming the reputed royal seat of the McLaughlin Clan and a site of strategic and defensive importance during the Napoleonic, First and Second World Wars. Gain an insight into the local flora and fauna in a truly wild and unforgettable location.
The tour is timed to finish up in time to watch the sunset from the best spots so don’t forget your camera for that stunning sunset photo. If you are lucky, we may even see the Aurora Borealis!

Unfortunately due to the nature of the terrain involved our walks and hikes are not disability friendly. However, a “Walk-Through Time, Lough Swilly and Fort Dunree” and the Fort Dunree Sunset Walk can be altered to facilitate disabled visitors, or visitors who would like to avoid steep hills. One hour guided walking tour prior to sunset.

Sunset viewing time will vary throughout the summer season, therefore the start time for this sunset walk will change depending on the time of year.

Yes, you can book more than one person onto a tour once you choose your preferred date, on the Cart page.
Please note that all walks and hikes apart from A Walk Through Time and Fort Dunree Sunset Walk are for over 16s.
Maximum 12 people for each tour.

Comfortable shoes and a waterproof coat and a warm layer should the weather turn. Don’t forget your camera! This walk includes a path with steep steps which may be slippery in places.
Children accompanied by parents are welcome on this tour, must be 12 years or older.
We would require a ratio of max 2 children per adult, to ensure proper supervision.
Fitness Level Required
A basic of fitness is required.
This route can be altered to be disability friendly. This should be arranged in advance by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cancellation policy (for scheduled and private tours):
- 29 days or more before the walk: no cancellation fee
- 15-28 days before the walk: 50% cancellation fee
- 8-14 days before the walk: 75% cancellation fee
- 7 days or less before the walk: 100% cancellation
