Inishowen could become the next International Dark Skies Reserve

Inishowen has become increasing famous for stargazing and, in particular, for viewing the Aurora Borealis. In recent years hundreds of astro-tourists have come to the area hoping to see the Northern Lights, as the Aurora is more commonly known as. With its’ clear skies and lack of light pollution there has been a call for the Inishowen to become the next Irish International Dark Skies Reserve, following in the footsteps of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, which recently was designated as a Gold Tier Dark Sky Reserve. The Iveragh Peninsula is only the third place in the world to achieve such recognition for its pristine skies.
